Who Submits Scores When GRE is Optional?

Resumen

The current paper explored implications of graduate-level test-optional policies (TOPs) for the types of undergraduate institutions applicants are drawn from and how they impact applicants’ decision-making. Using admissions data from a public R1 university’s graduate programs with TOPs we identified three latent classes of the types of universities applicants attended, based on their size, selectivity, and ethnic/racial profiles. Applicants from small, less-selective, proportionally high African-American/Black student institutions were more likely to submit scores than attendees of medium-sized, moderately-selective, proportionally high white student (OR = 1.66) and large, selective, public (OR = 1.93) institutions. Undergraduate grades did not predict score submission.
